The Paranormal Field Contains a wide range of terminology that may be confusing to many,  so we tried to sum it up with the basics. 
Basic Paranormal Terminology

Parapsychology - Refers to the study of paranormal phenomena.
Paranormal - Of or pertaining to the claimed occurrence of an event of perception without
 scientific explanation.

Ghost - The soul of a dead person, a disembodied spirit imaganed ,usually  as a vague, shadowy or evanescence form; as wondering among or haunting a living livibng  person.

Spirit - A supernatural being, , especially one inhabiting a place or object etc or having a particular character


Phantom - An Apparition or specter , existing only in energy form.
Apparition - The phenomenon where a spirit takes on physical form that can be seen.
Poltergeist - A destructive spirit that has the ability to move physical objects.
Intelligent Haunting - Paranormal activity that takes place around a person or location that is caused by an intelligent or conscious spirit.
Residual Haunting - Believed to be a psychic imprint of a scene that keeps repeating itself. With this type of haunting no interaction with a ghost occurs.
Orb - A spherical shaped, translucent mass of energy resembling a ball of light.
Discarnate - A spirit that exist without a physical body.
Disembodied Voice - A voice that is heard which comes from no physical body. Also known as EVP.
EVP -  ( Electronic voice phenomenon) The use of  audio equipment to capture voices and sounds of the dead where there are no physical  presences in the area.
Electromagnetic Field (EMF) - An electronic and magnetic energy that radiates from radio and light waves to gamma and cosmic waves.
EMF Detector - A device that measures and detects changes in electromagnetic fields.
